While our products celebrate and protect our National Parks, we can’t ignore the rest of the planet! That’s why we strive for sustainable production processes at every step of the way.
Our partner facilities run on solar power and are equipped with motion-sensor LEDs to conserve energy whenever possible. We’re working towards a completely paper-free facility by digitizing the entire process, and in the meantime, we recycle virtually all waste.
Our goods serve to protect wild lands, so it’s only right that their production leaves minimal trace.
How does Parks Project reduce water consumption?
By using newer, more efficient dye machines, our partners use 7x less water than the average for clothing manufacturers, saving 24 million gallons a week. Any water we do use goes through a filtration system that allows it to be recycled.
Our partner facilities use three gallons of water per pound of fabric, whereas most others use anywhere from nine to 20 gallons of water per pound of fabric. During an average week, we save approximately 24 million gallons of water.
A vast majority of our fabrics use US Grown cotton, and all of our items are printed, dyed, and finished locally, reducing transportation pollution and cutting down on CO2 emissions.
We are a cut-to-order business, meaning we never end up with overstock or excessive goods, leading to less waste for the planet to deal with. We also use deadstock fabrics whenever possible in an effort to further eliminate waste; these might include surplus fabrics from factory storage, mis-dyed fabrics, or leftover fabrics from previous production runs.
Our metal accessories are completely lead-free, and all paper products are FSC Certified. The FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certification is extremely important to us for the following reasons:
And finally; we make a difference because we're out there in the wild making a difference! From clearing invasive species in LA's wetlands, to picking up trash in Joshua Tree, to planting trees all over the country, our staff, Field Crew, and Volunteer Alliance are everywhere.
