OUR ROOTS

Every business has a history. Ours is rooted in care.

Grounded grew from one massage practice, one treatment room and a belief that thoughtful care should feel personal.

LOS ANGELES • PALM SPRINGS

It started with care.

Long before Grounded became a spa, salon, shop or hospitality partner, Jenn Gold was a massage therapist helping people feel more comfortable in their bodies.

She began her career in 2005, later teaching massage therapy and building a practice shaped by anatomy, body mechanics, chronic pain and the belief that care should support real life—not ask people to escape from it.

Grounded has grown considerably since then. The idea at its center has not changed: meet people where they are, listen carefully and help them leave feeling a little more supported than when they arrived.

CHAPTER 01

From practitioner to place.

Jenn grew up in Lakewood, California (Los Angeles), always feeling most at home somewhere between the ocean and the mountains. Massage therapy became a way to bring together movement, anatomy, teaching and care.

For years, the work happened one guest at a time. There was no grand plan to create a multidisciplinary spa. There was simply a growing understanding that people needed care that felt skilled, honest and human.

That work eventually created the foundation for Grounded: therapeutic bodywork without performance, hospitality without pretense and a space where people could arrive exactly as they were.

The business grew around the work—not the other way around.

CHAPTER 02

Palm Springs, 2013

Grounded opened its first Palm Springs studio in 2013 with one treatment room and a very small team.

It was independent, locally owned and built slowly—appointment by appointment, referral by referral and relationship by relationship. There was no corporate blueprint. There was a massage table, a point of view and a willingness to keep showing up.

Palm Springs gave Grounded room to become itself: relaxed but intentional, design-minded without becoming precious, and deeply connected to the people who live, work and visit here.

One room. A lot of heart. Still Grounded.

CHAPTER 03

Growing With the Desert

As Palm Springs changed, Grounded changed with it.

Massage expanded into skin care, nail rituals, brows, lashes and Roots Salon. The team grew to include massage therapists, estheticians, cosmetologists, nail specialists, guest-experience leaders and managers—each bringing their own discipline, culture and perspective into the space.

Grounded also moved beyond the studio. Relationships with boutique hotels, vacation rentals and hospitality partners grew into a mobile wellness program supported by certified, insured professionals and local scheduling.

The business became larger, but the goal remained small enough to hold: thoughtful care, delivered personally.

Growth only matters when the feeling survives it.

CHAPTER 04

Care Changes With Us

Wellness means something different when you have lived with chronic pain, recovered from spinal surgery, raised a family, watched your children become adults and learned that strength does not always look like pushing harder.

Those experiences changed the way Jenn understood both care and leadership. Rest became practical. Boundaries became necessary. Recovery stopped being something to earn.

Grounded reflects that perspective. We believe care can be quiet, realistic and responsive to the season of life someone is actually living through. Sometimes that means deeper therapeutic work. Sometimes it means lighter pressure, meditation, a thoughtful haircut or twenty minutes where nobody needs anything from you.

Wellness is not perfection. It is finding ways to keep showing up for your life.

CHAPTER 05

Built With Community

Grounded has never been built by one person.

It is held by a diverse team, loyal guests, local makers, hotel partners, neighboring businesses and the people who continue to choose independent care in a rapidly changing town.

We work to create flexible schedules, meaningful careers and a workplace where people are respected as whole human beings. We welcome LGBTQIA+ guests and team members, oppose racism and discrimination, and believe safety, consent and professional boundaries are essential parts of care.

We shop small, collaborate locally and give back where we can. Plants from Jenn’s mum still live around the studio, and their cuttings have gone home with guests over the years—a quiet continuation of the generosity that shaped Grounded from the beginning.

It takes a team to do this work—and to do it with heart.

THE DETAILS MATTER

Grounded is a feeling.

The experience is shaped by more than the service itself. Sound, scent, design, photography, products and small rituals all help create what guests carry with them when they leave.

01

Sound

Our sound moves through downtempo, soul, ambient electronics, ocean textures, funk, lo-fi and music with an actual point of view. Treatment rooms stay calm. Roots has more rhythm. Reception begins with the ocean.

Calm does not have to sound predictable.

02

Scent

Santal, clean skin, sea air and products chosen with restraint. Scent should help shape a memory—not follow you into the parking lot.

03

Design

Desert light, California texture, handmade pieces, photography, plants and spaces that feel collected rather than staged. We care about how a room feels because the nervous system notices details before the mind names them.

04

Refill + Reuse

Our in-studio OSEA refill station helps guests bring home more product with less packaging. That same lower-waste approach is expanding into refillable bath and body amenities for boutique hotels and vacation rentals.

We are not perfect. We are paying attention and trying to make better choices wherever we realistically can.

We are building a place that continues to feel honest, welcoming, useful and unmistakably Grounded.

The next chapter is still being written.
