Still Summer: What Useful Care Looks Like in Palm Springs Right Now

September is a transition everywhere else. Here, it’s still 110 degrees.

Palm Springs hasn’t gotten the memo about fall.

September arrives on the calendar while the desert is still very much in summer. Afternoons are hot. Streets are quiet. Pools are still doing serious work. We’re still carrying water everywhere and calculating how far the car is from the shade.

But there is a shift happening.

Mornings begin giving us a little more room. People start returning. Calendars start moving. The city slowly begins preparing for the season ahead.

At Grounded, we think this in-between month is useful.

Not as a reason to reinvent yourself.

As a chance to pay attention.

Start with what actually needs care.

Wellness has gotten very good at giving us more things to do.

More products.
More routines.
More treatments.
More rules.

We’re interested in something simpler.

What does your body actually need right now?

Maybe it feels heavy after a summer of heat, travel, sitting, flights and disrupted routines.

Maybe your skin has had enough sun, swimming, sweat, sunscreen and air-conditioning.

Maybe there’s some maintenance you’ve been putting off because August was August.

Or maybe you just need an hour when nobody needs anything from you.

All of those count.

If your body feels heavy, lighter work may make more sense.

Massage doesn’t always need to mean deeper pressure.

Lymphatic drainage is gentle, rhythmic bodywork intended to support the body's natural fluid movement. It can feel very different from traditional massage—which is precisely the point.

For someone feeling puffy, heavy or simply overworked, pushing harder isn't necessarily the answer.

Sometimes quieter work is useful work.

If your skin is irritated, doing more isn't always better.

End-of-summer skin can be confusing.

Dry and oily.
Dull and reactive.
Congested but somehow also feeling stripped.

The temptation is often to attack it.

Another acid. Another scrub. Another active. Another product promising to fix everything by Tuesday.

Your skin barrier may have other plans.

At Grounded, we're moving toward a simpler approach to skincare: pay attention first, then choose what actually belongs on the skin.

Sometimes that means hydration and barrier support.

Sometimes professional resurfacing makes sense.

Grounded offers one professional peel—a focused 30-minute peel available year-round—because we don't think a menu needs five versions of something when one well-considered treatment can do the job.

And what happens after a peel matters, too. Clear aftercare is part of the treatment, not an afterthought.

And sometimes care is just maintenance.

Not everything needs a wellness philosophy.

Sometimes you want the hair gone.

Grounded's waxing practice is expanding, and we're organizing it around a fairly simple idea:

Bodies don't need gendered service menus.

Professional waxing should be based on the area being treated, the service being performed and what the guest wants—not whether someone checked a men's or women's box.

Face. Chest. Back. Legs. Bikini area.

Tell us what you'd like taken care of.

That's enough information for us.

Spa Month is a good excuse. Not the reason.

September is Greater Palm Springs Spa Month.

We're happy to participate. It's good for local wellness businesses, gives visitors another reason to explore what's here, and gives locals a reason to finally book something they've been meaning to take care of.

But the calendar isn't really the point.

Useful care shouldn't require a special month.

Throughout September, we're offering 20% off lymphatic drainage, our 30-minute peel and all-gender waxing with code SPA20.

Three different services.

One question behind all of them:

What would actually feel useful right now?

Before the desert wakes back up.

Soon enough, Palm Springs will change gears.

Restaurants will fill. Hotels will fill. Calendars will fill.

Someone will declare it sweater weather while the thermometer still says 87.

We're not there yet.

For now, there's a little space between the deepest part of summer and everything that comes next.

You don't have to optimize it.

You can just take care of something.
